Mayor visits Apiary
By Nigel Lincoln

On 16 May, the Mayor of Dartford, Councillor Pat Coleman, paid a visit to the club apiary to see how work on the site was progressing and to meet club members.

The club recently received a special grant from Dartford Borough Council to support its activities in the community, and the visit was an opportunity to show how the money was being spent. It also gave club Chairman, William Mundy, a chance to thank the Mayor and the Council for their generosity:

"We are very grateful to the Council for this award, which will help us to restock the apiary, which is lacking suitable facilities, with some new hives and bees. This will greatly improve our ability to provide suitable training and information to future beekeepers.”

The Mayor was given a tour of the newly refurbished apiary and given an outline of the club’s plans for the future.

“As one of my last engagements as Mayor I was delighted to, once again, visit the Dartford branch of the Kent Beekeepers’ Association at the Bedonwell Apiary,” he said.

“It was good to see some new hives being built and plans to have them occupied through the summer.“

“A number of children there were taking a great interest in all that was going on, as well as a lady who had been beekeeping for just three months getting some more guidance from the experts.”

“Bedonwell Aviary is very special and Dartford is, indeed, very fortunate to have such a place within the Borough, with its members doing all they can to help preserve our bee population and educate young and old in the art of beekeeping.”
